Like “Kubrick by Kubrick,” Truffaut’s book birthed a documentary adaptation, with Kent Jones’ ruminative effort. While Jones’ “Hitchcock/Truffaut” pads . From his first feature film, Fear and Desire (), to his final, posthumously released Eyes Wide Shut (), Stanley Kubrick excelled at probing the dark corners of human consciousness. In doing so, he adapted such popular novels as The Killing, Lolita, A Clockwork Orange, and The Shining and selected a wide variety of genres for his films -- black comedy (Dr. Strangelove), science fiction /5(4).

"I think the title says it all: Stanley Kubrick's Napoleon: The Greatest Movie Never is something so fantastic, that I want to stay alive at least till this book comes out this fall. This is the ultimate obsessive book on Kubrick with respect to his research and thoughts on a film he never ry: Books > Film.   “Kubrick by Kubrick” finds the filmmaker touching on the value of his photography roots in understanding human motion, and then zips through his Author: Eric Kohn.

Stanley Kubrick's The Shining is widely praised as a brilliant film, but not by the man who wrote the book it was adapted from. This is why Stephen King hates The Shining so : Will Ashton. The book also argues that while Kubrick was a voracious intellectual and a life-long autodidact, the fascination of his work has less to On Kubrick book with the ideas it espouses than with the emotions it evokes. Often described as "cool" or "cold," Kubrick is best understood as a skillful practitioner of what might be called the aesthetics of the /5(8).

This book is a critical study of Stanley Kubrick's career, beginning with his earliest feature, Fear and Desire (), and ending with his posthumous production of A.I., Artificial Intelligence (). This book argues that in several respects Kubrick was one of the cinema's last modernists/5.

Its ultimate aim is to. Kubrick is Michael Herr's memoir of his nearly twenty-year friendship and collaboration with Stanley Kubrick, one of the greatest filmmakers of all time and the creator of On Kubrick book classics as Dr. Strangelove, A Space Odyssey, and A Clockwork Orange/5(17). The second part of the book brings to life the creative process of Kubrick’s filmmaking by presenting a remarkable collection of mostly unseen material from his archives, including photographs, props, posters, artwork, set designs, sketches, correspondence, documents, screenplays, drafts, notes, and /5().

Strangelove, A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, The SHining, Full Metal Jacket, and others. Michel Ciment's is the most informative, expansive and thoroughly-researched book on the director (or most directors for that matter) I have ever read.

A must-have for any Kubrick fan. level 1. Dedicated to Stanley Kubrick's 90th birthday, his life and work. Stanley Kubrick was an American film director, screenwriter, and producer. He is frequently cited as one of the greatest and most influential directors in cinematic history. Books shelved as kubrick: A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess, Stanley Kubrick, Director: A Visual Analysis by Alexander Walker, Kubrick by Michael Her.

Interesting to see the process Kubrick went through on perhaps his most personally passionate project. It is fascinating to see the level of detail and borderline obsessiveness of one of the greatest filmmakers of all time.

Basically a long magazine article, a good one, but sketchy on Kubrick. Herr worked with Kubrick on several movies and was a friend and I got a much clearer sense of the director's character and obsessions.

There's a great afterword on Eyes Wide Shut that pinpoints the dream logics at work in a film that's radically undervalued/5. An intimate portrait of the genius who transformed the art of film-makingStanley Kubrick's career spanned Paths of Glory, Lolita, Dr Strangelove, A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, The Shining and Eyes Wide Shut.

The Stanley Kubrick Archives This book of archives is partly biography and partly cinematography. The writing and interviews are great, but the photos that showcases his work is superb.

It captures the behind the scene moments of him as a director. Thomas Nelson describes this book as "the greatest influence of any single written work on the evolution of [Kubrick's] private aesthetics". Kubrick also found the ideas of Konstantin Stanislavski to be essential to his understanding the basics of directing, and gave himself a crash course to learn his methods.

Clarke and Kubrick worked on the book together, but eventually only Clarke ended up as the official author. The story is based in part on various short stories by Clarke, including " The Sentinel " (written in for a BBC competition, but first published in under the title "Sentinel of Eternity").Author: Arthur C.

Clarke. Two scholarly books that are comparative critical studies of Kubrick's work discuss A.I. and even list it in their filmography. A book on the making of the film with a foreword by Spielberg also treats the film throughout as effectively a collaboration between Stanley Kubrick and Steven Spielberg.

Other scholarly treatments of Kubrick largely ignore the film. But he and Ciment kept in touch, and in Ciment published a book, “Kubrick,” based on conversations with the director. The conversations continued, and .So I got this book in an old antique shop in Warsaw, Poland.

I know that Kubrick almost never gave away any autographs so its probably not real, anyways I wanted to share as maybe you guys can provide more factual expertise. I reached out to one other antique shop to see if they can establish if its an actual Kubrick's autograph.Harris and Kubrick discovered Stefan Zweig 's novel The Burning Secret, in which a young baron attempts to seduce a young Jewish woman by first befriending her twelve-year-old son, who eventually realizes the actual motives of the baron.
